Boil 'Em, Mash 'Em, Put 'Em In A Stew

The only thing left in the garden is potatoes. I helped Nathan dig up all of these potatoes yesterday. Only after clawing around in the dirt for about ten minutes did I start to see small brown pellets on the top. That would be Millie poop. Awesome. (Note: I washed my hands three times after this picture was taken.)

The Blanket

So, I've heard that the first step in overcoming a problem is admitting that you have a problem. Well...my name is Lyndsey, and I have a blanket. I've actually had a series of blankets but my current one is on its last leg. I've had this one since high school. It goes everywhere with me except on plane trips. Last week I had to doctor the blanket. The middle section was a wad of thread - destroyed by a washing machine. I cut out the bad section and now only two small pieces are left. (See picture below.) This blanket is Nathan's nemesis. He often wakes up in the middle of the night with it wrapped around his throat. The blanket has never, ever done this to me. It loves me unconditionally and comforts me when I'm blue. Soon it will disappear completely, so I am already mentally preparing myself for this day. Fact: My mom has already given me a replacement. It's pink and wonderful.

Thanksgiving Weekend

It was nice being home for Thanksgiving with no long drives involved. This is the first time in nine years we haven't had to drive to Owensboro for the weekend. We ate at Nathan's house on Thursday, and then again at my house on Friday. My entire family was in town.

Main Events of the Weekend:
1. Two HUGE meals.
2. Bonfire at the Kunzes.
3. Meeting Erin's boyfriend Will.
4. Baxter's hockey game.
5. Third viewing of New Moon - with Katie.
6. UK vs. TN game - on right now.

Baxter (#11) playing hockey. They won!

Anne and Jeff were in KY! They came out to Nathan's for the big bonfire...leftovers from the ice storm.

More New Moon Pics

The devoted midnight group - Carolyn, Jill, Krystle, Me, Marie, Katie, and Tiffany.

The awesome t-shirt I had printed for everyone...people at the theater kept stopping us to read the shirt and ask where we bought it. Muhahaha! Already thinking about the Eclipse shirt.

Thinking about Baby Hollan. She's due just after the new year.

Self-explanatory.

To the Bitter Critics

On the way home from Auburn, I called my brother Scott to ask him to burn a few CDs for me (Radiohead and Incubus). Because Scott knew I had spent the last two days knee-deep in New Moon, he jumped on the internet and started reading me the one-liners from film critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Here are a list of my favorites. Obviously these people have no friends and no time in their lives for guilty pleasures. I feel sorry for them. Life would hardly be worth living if I didn't pause every now and then to enjoy sappy Nicholas Sparks' storylines or mocha frappuccinos with extra whipped cream and extra chocolate sauce or two hour naps after school on Fridays or hours of Dawson's Creek reruns or vampires and werewolves and Bella Swan. Guilty pleasures...I'm not proud of these little obsessions, but I'm man enough to admit that I LOVE THEM ALL. So, to the bitter critics - I'm sorry you had such rude things to say about my movie. I think that secretly you loved it.

- "It's Shakespeare on training wheels made for future Lifetime viewers."

- "Memo to director Chris Weitz and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg: Just because you make a movie about vampires doesn't mean you suck the life out of your story."

- "Fans will quiver and sigh; everyone else will shrug and move on."

- "The irony is this movie is about vampires but the only thing doing any sucking is the movie itself."

- "I can't comment on the acting because I didn't catch Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner doing any. They basically primp and pose through the same humdrum motions they did before."

- "Considering Lautner's acting improved so much sans shirt, I wonder if there might have been Oscar buzz had he taken off his pants."

New Moon Premiere

I drove down to Auburn Thursday afternoon to make it for the midnight premiere of New Moon. It was ammaaazing! I visited with teachers at AJHS on Friday but our New Moon weekend wasn't over yet. A bunch of fans met at Tiff's that afternoon where we carpooled back to the theater. Somehow, we had connections to a couple that had RENTED a theater opening night. We got our tickets and watched New Moon for a second time in twenty-four hours. Again...ammaaazing! After the movie, we headed back to Tiffany's house for a little dinner. Here are some pics from the night. Jealous?

Everyone in the lobby of the theater. Sorry about the space at the top of the photo...a thirteen year old girl took this picture.

Tiffany, Katie, Me, and Meg patiently waiting.

Jill with her red velvet cake at the party.

All the ladies debriefing after the film...at this point we are all talking about our favorite scenes. Fact: The best scene in the movie takes place in the rain.

The girls in our custom t-shirts: Marie, Katie, Palmer, Kim, Meg, Krystle, Jill, Tiffany, Jacque, me.

Oh yeah! Those are our men on the backs of our shirts.

Best In Show

At my nephew's high school, they have an annual fundraiser called "Best In Show." To sum it up, it's a drag beauty pageant. Each organization at the school sacrifices a young boy to participate. This is Brendan's second year as the soccer team's contestant. During the show, audience members put money in jars for each contestant. The contestant with the most money by the end of the night is the winner. Pretty clever fundraiser. Here's Brendan in his evening gown and his casual outfit. Those are my clothes...I'm so proud!

Moo and Boom

Here's the cow that got loose from the neighbor's field yesterday. It ran up and down the Kunze's field and around their yard until she was retrieved. She was really cute.

The Executive Inn before the implosion - this hotel is one of the most famous landmarks in Owensboro. I can remember going to dozens of birthday parties here because they had an indoor pool. Moms would rent rooms by the pool and watch us swim all night.

Boom! It took about five seconds for the building to fall to the ground when they imploded it.

Friday Nights

Kerry is back in Owensboro so we entertained him last night by taking him to my nephew's hockey game. It started at 10:15 which was a struggle for me, but I made it. We got a little carried away and didn't get home until 2am. That never happens...nice to have a buddy back in town!

Here are a few pictures from the hockey game last night. Bailey's team won. The picture of the scoreboard is actually my documentation of Bailey in the penalty box. He's number 41...you can kind of see him behind the glass. Bailey received a big cheer from the crowd when he helped a player from the opposing team get up off the ice. What a good sport!

More New Moon Updates

Here's the poem sent with the above movie poster on the invite for the New Moon party in Auburn in a few weeks. Tiffany and I are so excited...

Since a year is much too long,

To keep our man off the big screen,

You must admit that it would be wrong,

To NOT have a party with a New Moon theme.

Let’s get together to eat and to chatter,

About the movie we saw at midnight.

Edward and Jacob fans – it doesn’t matter,

Because all of us are obsessed with Twilight.

We’ll eat a dinner fit for the Volturi clan,

Something Italian and oh so good.

Bring a drink and a sweet if you can,

We’ll celebrate in style like we should.

Bring a little extra cash with you,

To see the movie for a second time.

I think we’ll all be ready for round two.

Aren’t werewolves and vampires sublime?

New Moon Updates

So, if you haven't heard yet, I'm planning a special trip to Auburn just for the New Moon premiere. We've had t-shirts printed, we've purchased our tickets (for two showings), and we've planned the party. Tiffany and I have probably emailed a hundred times talking about it. I've been listening to the soundtrack lately, and I really like it. Here's the mini-poster included in the liner notes of the album. Nice.

Weekend in Lexington

Nathan and I decided to go to Lexington this weekend to hang out with AJ and Jenny. Jenny's sister won a contest for UK that got her six "VIP Experience" passes to Keeneland. It was awesome. We had a box to watch the races from, and we got to watch races from the winner's circle and the announcer's booth. We had our picture taken with the jockey who won the Derby this year. I should be getting a copy of that soon. There's a picture of Calvin the Jockey below. Pretty sweet. After Keeneland, we went to the football game. It was cold but fun. The Cats lost but it was worth the trip.
